Many people already know what it is, but there are still some who are completely unaware of it. It is simply a soap made in a traditional way and with natural ingredients.
What is cold process soap?
Cold soap is a solid soap resulting from a chemical reaction called saponification between a fatty substance (oil or vegetable butter) and a base (soda). It is a gentle manufacturing method that allows the ingredients to keep their properties. We use soothing and treating oils such as sweet almond oil, coconut oil, macadamia oil, etc. or shea butter. The oils are neither heated nor denatured, and the finished product is rich in natural glycerin. But the best cold soap is superfatted with the addition of a little oil at the end of the manufacturing process. Due to cold saponification, the soap is gentle and less aggressive for the hydrolipidic film of the epidermis. It is a healthy, organic and natural cleansing treatment that perfectly cleanses the skin of the face and body as well as the hair. Cold soap is a quality product suitable for everyone, regardless of age and skin type.
All the benefits of cold soap
Unlike industrial soap containing palm oil, preservatives and synthetic fragrances, cold soap does not dry out the skin. It cleans it while moisturizing it. By using it, you can therefore do without shower gel and body lotion. It saves both money and time. It should also be noted that it lasts longer, it is stable over time. There is no risk of bacteria developing there. Moreover, these industrial products are confined in plastic bottles which are a major pollutant for our planet. Thus, by opting for cold soap , you are doing something for the environment. In addition, it is sold without packaging, and its production requires very little water and energy, because it is not heated.
How to make cold soap?
In organic shops, you can find different types of cold soaps depending on your skin or hair type or the scent you want. But you can make your own cold soap yourself. You just have to mix the fats (shea butter, almond oil, coconut oil, castor oil, etc.) and the caustic soda at a temperature between 27 and 45° until you obtain a paste. Add a few drops of essential oil for perfume and natural coloring (plants, clays, etc.). Then, pour the latter into a mold, wait 24 hours for the soap to harden. Afterwards, you can cut, and let it dry for 4 weeks before using. However, be careful when handling caustic soda, wear a mask, goggles and gloves.
