Sodium cocoyl glutamate
Sodium cocoyl glutamate
Palm oil free, derived from coconut oil and a natural amino acid, sodium cocoyl glutamate is an ultra-mild surfactant that is ideal for easily preparing sulfate-free shampoos and shower gels, facial cleansers or micellar lotions for the whole family, including the most delicate skin. It produces a dense and creamy foam and cleanses gently without being harsh.
A surfactant is a compound that has 2 parts with different polarities:
- A hydrophilic head, “which loves water”, that is to say having a strong affinity for water
- A lipophilic tail, “which likes fat”, which will bind to fatty substances, and which is also hydrophobic (it does not like water).
This ambivalent character (called “amphiphilic”) gives surfactants the property of being placed at the interfaces between water and fatty substances.
Sodium Cocoyl Glutamate is made from fatty acids from coconut oil and the amino acid glutamate (found in the structural protein (collagen) of human skin). It is a rather mild anionic surfactant, used in organic formulas.
It is recognized as a natural ingredient by the Natural Products Association, and is certified by Ecocert, the first certification entity to develop standards for natural and organic products.
Sodium Cocoyl Glutamate can be used as a co-surfactant in body washes and hair care products. It helps stimulate hair growth and, at the same time, removes toxins that weaken hair structures. It strengthens hair by helping to reintegrate proteins. With its anti-static and hair conditioning properties, it leaves hair light and soft. It also does not sting the eyes, making it perfect for children's cosmetics. SCG also softens hard water, making it indispensable when combined with surfactants that do not work well alone in hard water.
