In your baby's first few months, teeth are not yet apparent. Oral hygiene then involves cleaning the gums, which is not mandatory. But in the absence of the first teeth, brushing the gums is neither necessary nor suitable - that's just our opinion. It's better to leave your baby alone for now! 3-12 months, baby 's first teeth and first brushing?

Before the first tooth comes out, your child will drool a lot, and especially be in pain... And yes, getting your teeth out is real work! To help our kids , it is possible to use your finger and a soothing gel to massage the sore gums. Silicone massage fingers exist (the Nuby brand offers them). They help relieve teething and clean your baby's gums if necessary. On the dental care market, this type of product can be useful. But the presence of silicone and the fact that it is made in China does not lead us to recommend its use. A simple finger from mom or dad will suffice. At this stage, massage seems more useful to us than brushing as such...

Between 6 and 12 months , your baby's teeth are more substantial. Learning about oral hygiene can begin!

Some babies may have between 6 and 8 teeth already. But your baby will certainly be much more interested in putting everything he can in his mouth and chewing rather than brushing his teeth. And that's normal! Under the watchful eye of an adult, you can start to give him a suitable toothbrush. He will mainly chew it and play with it, but this step is necessary. Your baby is getting used to the object and it amuses him to do as you do and put it in his mouth - the role of example is essential at this stage. The child will start by brushing his teeth to imitate you, not to have clean teeth!
