First and foremost, make sure your workspace is clean and protected to best complete your olive oil and coconut soap recipe. We don't want any traces of caustic soda left behind at the end of our homemade soap-making session. That's where newspaper comes in! Place it on the work area.

Place your coconut oil in a double boiler to melt it. Put on your protective gear and open your windows. It's time to gently stir your caustic soda into your demineralized water. Don't breathe in the fumes from the mixture!

When all the soda is dissolved in the water, place your container inside a basin of cold water, set it down, do not pour it. Add a thermometer.

The temperature must drop below 60°C so that there is no longer any risk of steam.

Change the cold water as needed to bring your mixture to 29°.

Check the melting of your coconut oil. Once it's completely liquid, add the olive oil and sunflower oil. Place your second thermometer in your mixture. This mixture should also reach 29°C. To reheat a mixture, place it in hot water.

Once your two mixtures are at the same temperature, remove them from their bain-marie and gently pour the soda into the oils while mixing with your spatula.

Now get to it with the immersion blender in one hand and the spatula in the other – we didn't say it would be effortless!

Once your paste is smooth and you see a nice trace on the edges inside your container, add your essential oil and possibly your pigment.

Once everything is well mixed, pour your mixture into your molds. Cover them with plastic wrap, making sure the film touches the dough. Let it rest for 1 to 2 days.

Unmold your soaps using gloves, then let them air dry for 4 weeks.

Check the pH of your soaps by placing your tongue on the soap. If it tingles, it means it needs to dry further and the lye is still active.

Happy preparing your olive oil soap recipe!
