A reusable cotton swab review that makes sense

Here is our reusable cotton swab review

Since January 1, 2020, the sale of cotton swabs with plastic stems for household use has been banned in France. This is decreed by Article L541-10-5 of the Environmental Code. However, this law does not prohibit their use; consumers can still turn to reusable cotton swabs. They are a safer alternative while being just as effective as traditional cotton swabs. Here's our reusable cotton swab review .

Why is plastic banned?

From the moment it's manufactured, plastic is harmful to the environment and health. It comes from the petrochemical industry, and to manufacture it, components derived from oil and gas must be used and chemical additives added. But that's not all; its production is very energy-intensive. Furthermore, plastic is rarely recyclable, making recyclable cotton buds complicated. Thus, many plastic wastes are sent into nature, and this pollutes our planet (fauna and flora). They take 400 years to decompose. If they are incinerated, the process pollutes the atmosphere, releasing tons of carbon dioxide. In France, each year, more than 8 million tons of plastic waste from human activity are dumped into the ocean. Moreover, we can say that recyclable cotton buds are truly recyclable from the moment they can be processed and reused to transform, in part or in whole, into a new object. Is this the case? And for all these reasons, wouldn't it be wise to avoid plastic?

As for cotton buds, they are criticized for the plastic stem, but that's not all, the cotton used is also singled out, because it is not organic. Indeed, its cultivation requires a lot of water and pesticides. In view of the findings, it is normal that we no longer use single-use cotton buds, the alternative remains the reusable cotton bud review .

Reusable cotton swab reviews

Even though using a cotton swab is not essential or mandatory, some people cannot do without this object. Moreover, to clean the ears, a piece of towel or a little finger is enough. But if you are one of these people, here is our reusable cotton swab review . Among the more health- and environmentally friendly alternatives, there is the ear bulb that is used for babies and children or the use of the recyclable cotton swab for children. It is a balloon with a flexible nozzle, and it must be filled with warm water. The nozzle is to be placed in the ear canal, and the bulb must be gently squeezed. Then, the water is assessed by tilting the head to the side, the water will come out and carry away the earwax. There is also the wooden oriculi, it is a small stick of about ten centimeters with a curved end. Of Japanese origin, it is easy to use, because it scrapes the auricle and the entrance to the ear canal to remove earwax. Also note the stainless steel ear cleaner which is based on the same principle as the oriculi, but it is made with stainless steel as well as the medical silicone ear stick with a cross-shaped base and tip. If you are looking for a truly safe product, the French brand Caliquo offers a locally produced ear cleaner, it is made of European beech wood, and it is reusable and ecological.

Silicone cotton swab review

Reviews are quite mixed on this product, it's good and bad.

If you have trouble giving up your cotton swab, this one is for you because it looks very similar to your everyday cotton swab. The only difference is that it's made of silicone, so it's reusable and won't disrupt your ear cleaning routine. Very simple to use and easily washable with water or soap.

But be careful about the product's origin so it doesn't become energy-intensive and polluting. Some are produced in China, which isn't very eco-friendly and loses all its charm. Do your research before buying.
